Message from the President
Olympus, which was founded as a microscope manufacturer in 1919, closely guarded the secrets of its lens polishing technology and passed down this technology from generation to generation as the prized results of long, painstaking efforts. Optical technology created by our founder was the origin of Olympus, but it eventually led to our development of proprietary camera and endoscope technologies as well.
Since joining Olympus, I have worked in accounting, corporate planning, business improvement and other areas of the head office operations as well as Medical and Life Sciences businesses. I have spent 16 years of my career overseas. Looking back, when I was stationed in Europe as a representative executive of Olympus Europe, I came to understand clearly what global management means based on the local style of management. Europe is a collection of countries encompassing diverse cultures, customs and values. To manage operations with optimal efficiency in that diverse region, we had to develop a deep knowledge of each country to accurately grasp local circumstances and the opinions of local employees, plan how to apply policies to the region, and provide support for business implementation.
Now, we are transitioning to a corporate structure that will integrate our entire global group. We are beginning in earnest to transform Olympus into a more powerful and agile company for sustainable growth, which will enable us to continue contributing to society by making people's lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling.
